Our goal is to make sure we provide a comfortable atmosphere for you and your child. Your child’s health and safety is our number one priority. Feel free to bring a friend or relative with you for additional support.
During your visit, Dr. Mikel Newman will listen to your concerns and perform a thorough examination on your child. Dr. Mikel will discuss treatment options and answer any questions that you may have. For your convenience, treatment may be done on the same day as the consultation.
Infants will be swaddled tightly during the procedure to ensure their safety. Your child should feel no pain during the procedure as the areas to be treated will be numbed. For children between ages 1-3, a low dose oral sedative (Versed) may be given to provide added comfort and safety. The sedative takes about 30 minutes to take effect and may last up to 2 hours. Nitrous oxide may be safely used for older children.
Dr. Mikel uses a CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser and the actual lasering time is less than one minute. If you elect to stay in the waiting area, we will have your child back to you within 5-10 minutes.
After the procedure, you will have a private area to feed and soothe your child. However, due to the numbing agent, it is normal if your infant has difficulty with feeding. This is temporary and should resolve later on in the day. In most cases, the baby may prefer to rest or fall asleep afterwards. Toddlers and children may need a few minutes to settle afterwards and are safe to go home immediately after the procedure.
