Our goal is to make sure we provide a comfortable atmosphere for you and your child. Your child’s health and safety is our number one priority. Feel free to bring a friend or relative with you for additional support.
During your visit, Dr. Mikel Newman will listen to your concerns and perform a thorough examination on your child. Dr. Mikel will discuss treatment options and answer any questions that you may have.
For your convenience, treatment may be done on the same day as the consultation. We give every parent the option to be present in the room for the procedure. Please choose whatever feels most comfortable.
During the procedure your infant will be swaddled to make sure they are secure. A topical numbing agent is all that is needed for infants to minimize discomfort. Older infants and toddlers may need to be numbed with a local anesthetic. For children older than one, a low dose oral sedative (Versed) may be given to provide added comfort and safety. The sedative takes about 30 minutes to take effect and may last up to 2 hours.
Dr. Mikel uses a CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser during the procedure. Actual lasering time during the procedure is less than one minute and it is normal for your infant to cry during the procedure. If you elect to stay in the waiting area, we will have your child back to you within 5-10 minutes.
After the procedure, you will have a private area to feed and soothe your child. In some cases, the baby may prefer to rest or fall asleep afterwards. You will be given as much time as you need to feed or soothe your infant.
